6 Things that I gave up for a Happier Life

At some point of time, we are all guilty of making our lives tough. During such moments usually our first reaction is to blame others for the hardship we are facing. Sometimes, we blame bosses for overloading us with work pressure and other times we blame our family for not letting us focus on work or health. But none of them is ever responsible for whatever is happening our lives. It is our mental habit to put others on fault for own conditions. So, at one point of time, I stopped by and looked within to find the reason for everything that isn’t going well in my life. The problem lies within, so is the solution. Rather than always indulging in “doing” something to make life better, Here is list of things we need to “quit” to simplify life.

Stopped Listening to others – This is one of most annoying thing that we all do. Listening to what others say or do. Many a times, our actions, desires and goals are influenced by others. What they choose to do, how they interpret our progress or even what opinion do they have about our life. This makes our life miserable when we start living our lives based on the opinions and approvals of other. We are scared of being rejected and eventually simply follow what others want us to do may it the family, bosses, friends, lovers or for that matter who so ever influences our lives.

The key to happiness lies in being who you really are and doing you want to do. As soon as I decided to be myself and listened to my inner guidance, I immediately found peace within.

Indulging too much in Social Media – this point indirectly relates to the above mentioned. While we spend too much time on social networking sites, we are looking into what is happening in the lives of others, which sometimes puts us in the state of comparison and distracts us from our own life and we start living the life which is more attention seeking (that may not always match us with the life of own dreams).

Also, while we are indulged too being Social animal, we forget about our own well-being and the real life relations. It is good to stay connected with outer world but not at the cost of self.

Making Excuses – The easiest way to avoid something is to make up an excuse for it, and we all do it often such as most common excuse that me make is that I am unable to make up for gym or a yoga class because of the work pressure OR I am unable to pursue my hobby because I am too much occupied in making living. Nevertheless, if you decide to work on your happiness, it’s time to stop making excuses.  It’s never too late to start over and you’re never too old to do something new and exciting that makes you happy.

Putting myself down. If you tell yourself something enough, you’ll start believing. Stop whacking yourself. You are what you think you are. More you “put” yourself down, more you will “pull” yourself down. Instead, do things that makes you proud of yourself.  Don’t forget that self-love is a one of the most powerful thing. Embrace it. That’s the only way you’ll feel good about yourself.

Living in the past. Past is gone, no one can change anything about it. Life moves on and things have changed for better now, so accept it. It’s OK to ponder, but there is no need to spend your present time thinking and talking about how things used to be. If it was bad, take the lesson and if that was good, cherish those moments but we need to look for happiness in our present and make plans for your future. Opportunities lies in the today, neither in the past nor in the future, we can only grab them when we live in the present.

Comparing myself with others: this the worst thing that we do to ourselves, Comparing ourselves with others. We try to copy what others do especially if they are the influencer like celebrities or someone very successful around us. Know that those who are successful or made a remarkable place is because they followed their passion and not what others guided them to do. So, pay attention to your own desires and passions, than only you will be able to lead a fulfilling and happy life.

This is my life, a gift of Universe to me. I choose to live it my way, my ideas and my passions. It is very good to be inspired by others and incorporate positive changes in our lives based on our inspirations. However, we must avoid living the life of others to have a lasting happiness and fulfillment in life.

Please share your ideas and insights with me others in the comment box and let’s inspire each other.

      Hi Anja,
We certainly are. No one else can do it for you. And it is all about the choices we make for ourselves.

Great points I’d like to add to that: You don’t need to have everything figured out and go try things out.

These are all great points, especially the one about social media. So many people I know are so obsessed with it, that the feel the need to put everything on social media as it’s happening. In reality, they’re missing out on having a good time by trying to prove to the internet that they’re having a good time.
