Green Tea – Much more than just a weight loss aid

We all know the most common use of Green Tea – Weight Loss. Lots of people are consuming Green tea these days for the sake of managing weight, while they have less or no time to work out.  But there is much more to it than just a losing some extra pounds. Here is a list for few of its benefits which I have found.

Strengthen immunity: I have been consuming green tea regularly and I found that I have developed quite a strong immunity as compared to other members of my family who do not intake the green tea. I have found that over the years there very hardly any instance when I was caught by fever, infections, cold or cough.

Combats Depression: Green tea is helpful in calming down the senses and nerves, which eventually helps in reducing the stress level and depressions. It also enhances your mood, so at any point of time, if you are feeling low or down, just prepare a hot cup of green tea and enjoy every sip of it. Those who suffer from anxiety disorder, green tea can be a great help. Not only, it fights the symptoms of the depression, but also helps in reducing the side effects of the medication.

Improves Memory: In one of the recent studies regarding green tea it is found that it can noticeably improve the memory. This can have a long term effect on your mind and result in prevention from illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Prevents Lifestyle disorders: Now-a-days, when most of the people spend their time sitting in front of computer for long hours and hardly get time to walk, play, sleep well and other physical activities. They often suffer from back pain, high blood sugar, high or low blood pressure, acidity and many other problems. Anti-oxidants present in green tea can help be reducing such effects. Of course it cannot compensate for physical activities that are important but adding Green tea to a daily routine can be a great start towards a healthy lifestyle.

How Much Green Tea Should I Consume?

Although, I have read that, ideally one needs to take 3-4 cups of green tea to see the effects. But there are no rules, I, personally take only one cup of green tea. Those who are addicted to drinking tea or coffee can replace the excess cups with healthy green tea.

How to prepare Green Tea?

Again, there is not standard recipe. Adding few leaves of Green tea to boiled water and keeping it covered for 3-5 minutes is most simple way to prepare this miraculous drink. However, many people find it quite boring, there quit drinking it in few days. To add a flavour (and the benefits) to it, you can add, Honey, lemon, cinnamon, fennel seeds, basil leaves, ginger etc.

Besides, Green tea also helps in recovery from illnesses and injuries faster and many studies also indicate that it is helpful in preventing neurological disorders.

Health is much more than having a perfect weight- this simple and easy to prepare drink can helps in stay healthy and fit in your fast paced life.

Please do share your thoughts about this post. If you have experienced any other benefits of Green tea or know some other ingredients to add to a healthy cup of Green tea, please do share in the comment box.

I absolutely love green tea! I used to be only a coffee drinker, but with green tea I have so much more clarity and a calm energy rather than a jittery one. So nice to know there are so many more benefits to it too! Thanks for the informative post.

I live with bipolar disorder and I’m a Mental Health Advocate for Mental Health Humor Cartoons. Thank you for sharing about green tea and how it may help with the symptoms of mild forms depression. My understanding is that we are drinking the amino acid L-Theanine in green tea for the reduction in depression (Current Medicinal Chemistry 2015 AND Psych Central). If I read the research right, the therapeutic threshold somewhere after drink a minimum of 4 cups (32 oz.) of green tea. Do you think four cups or more of green tea is a lot of tea?

What really caught my attention was something I would love to learn more about when you wrote about green tea “helps in reducing the side effects of the medication.” If you could email me more about this or post more… I would love to share it.

      Dear Chato,
As per my experience 4 cups of green tea is fairly good. But in case you are preparing tea using pure leaves (as I do, instead of tea bags) 2 cups are good, because of its purity.
Being on heavy medication myself, I know it does helps in subsiding the side effects.
One may not be able to see results in 1-2 days but regular intake of green tea shows visible differences.

I drink a cup of green tea every day, and I really feel it when I don’t have one in the morning. I’ve also found that quality tea makes a huge difference. I have to admit, I’d never thought about how it helps lifestyle disorders, though. Thanks for sharing!

The antioxidants in green tea also give it antiaging properties. It’s a great way to stay hydrated, especially in Winter, when it’s more comforting to have a hot drink than just water. I love green tea. Thank you for sharing the connection between green tea and mental health.
