Serenity is found here – Pangong Tso – Ladakh

There are times when we all just want to get rid of that frantic routine life and simply relax. During such a phase, all we need is an escape to place when we can find much-needed serenity. Pangong Tso is one  such tranquil place in India.

Pangong Tso is situated in the Himalayas near Leh Ladakh. The height of the lake is 4350 m above the sea level. Owing to its picturesque beauty this lake has been featured in many Indian movies as well. The lake is over 130 kilometers long. The lake starts from India and stretches all the way to Tibet. The temperature of the water in the lake is always on the lower side. Generally, it is in the range of -5°C to 10°C.

As the temperature in the lake is so low, during the winters, it freezes completely. One of the unique features of this lake is that the colour of the lake changes depending on the time of the day. The colour changes from azure to light blue to green and sometimes grey as well. Owing to this unique feature of the lake, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Leh Ladakh. As it is flanked by mountains all around it, it is a sight to behold.

Owing to the presence of saltwater, the aquatic life is not present in the lake. However, during the summer months, it does witness some migratory birds.

If you want to explore the lake, a couple of hours are more than enough. However, you have to make sure that you are having the inner line permit in order to visit the lake. Also, you can combine this lake tour with a couple of other tourist attractions as well like:

             TsoMoriri Lake

             Changtang Wildlife Sanctuary

This lake is also situated in the wildlife sanctuary which we mentioned above.

Camping:

There are plenty of camping opportunities around the lake as well as the wildlife sanctuary. Thus, as long as you are bringing your own meals and tent, you would be able to enjoy your day within nature quite comfortably. If you’re looking for a suitable camping site and are not just looking to set it up by the lakeside, you can head over to the wildlife sanctuary and opt for the site named Tangste. This place also already has eco huts and thus, you should not worry about erecting the tents are setting them up.

Owing to the pristine atmosphere as well as completely natural surroundings, many of the tourists visit this lake in order to just explore the natural beauty in and around the lake.

So, the next time around, you are thinking about exploring Leh Ladakh, do make sure that you explore the Pangong Tso Lake owing to its natural beauty and serene surroundings.
