How to Adopt Lifelong Learning?

How to Adopt Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning is such a wonderful stance to take. It opens you up to a greater understanding of the world around you and can provide immense satisfaction. It can also be critical to reaching and even smashing through career goals again and again.
Lifelong learning can help you feel better, live better, and be better. It can help you progress your career and open up new career opportunities. Knowing how you can incorporate learning into your everyday life and how you can build it into your routine is how you can really start making a difference in your quality of life.

Reasons to Adopt Lifelong Learning

Learning for the joy of learning is absolutely a valid choice, but for most, they will want a more tangible benefit to get started. Eventually, you’ll start seeking out information in the medium that suits you best because you enjoy it, but to get started, know that you’ll often enjoy these three benefits:

• Improve Fulfillment

Adopt lifelong learning

Being fulfilled and content is by far the single best state to be in. You will always have good days and bad days, but if you are content or fulfilled as a whole, then the bad days won’t seem quite so bad, and there will likely be more good days to balance them all out. Feeling fulfilled means that you have a purpose and that you are happy with where you are at. Learning can offer that to you.

• Improve Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

Learning also offers many wonderful mental and emotional benefits. It can help you challenge yourself in the best ways – and also in the ways that suit you best. Learning can help keep you interested, alert, and calm. Never underestimate the need to be mentally stimulated and challenged – two things that happen naturally when you learn.

• Progress Your Career

The biggest reason why people adopt lifelong learning is for their careers. Everything you learn can help you in one way or another. Even reading a fiction book can help by improving your communication and vocabulary. Add in useful information for your career, and you can really push through and stand out from your peers.

Resources for Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning can mean anything from reading a pamphlet to taking on a degree.

• Traditional Resources

Traditional resources will be the options available to you at all times. Books, news, podcasts, digital talks, free online short courses, audiobooks – the list goes on and on. Just because these options are either free to you or budget-friendly does not make them any less valuable for yourself or your career.

• Career Resources

Career resources tend to be more heavy-handed and have a price barrier. While you can absolutely progress your career using free resources, it isn’t always possible. Take nursing, for example. To progress your career and take on more responsibilities (and in turn fetch a higher wage), you need to have formal qualifications.

A BSN and MSN are the common qualifications to earn, but you don’t want to earn a new MSN if you feel like changing your specialty or role. Thankfully postgraduate nurse practitioner programs are available to help you customize and further your career in just three to five semesters.

Workshops, certified courses, certification, conferences – all of these are high-quality, and career-focussed learning opportunities that can teach you a lot and are also impressive on your CV.

How to Incorporate Lifelong Learning into Your Everyday?

While career resources have timetables, learning in general doesn’t. The good news is that if you build up a routine for yourself, you will automatically have a great study routine if you wish to further progress your career with a postgraduate certificate.

A good way to start is to fill up dead time. Commutes are a very popular time to read or listen to podcasts, as you are already doing something, even if you are not mentally engaged. If you take public transport, your options will be greater as well, as you have the option to focus your full attention on something. Videos, books, and audio learning tools all work very well.
If you are driving, then you will want to stick with podcasts or audiobooks.

If you can, try to get in the habit of reading. Reading is an essential skill that will improve your life, from the content you learn all the way to the improvement of your communication skills.

Regardless of how you work in learning to your every day, be consistent. Routine is where your personal development can flourish, so get started today!

Lifelong learning is also important because although you don’t pursue a certificate or a degree, the more you learn, the less vulnerable you are to the traps of life.

I agree that learning has a huge impact on our emotional state! It keeps us entertained, especially at jobs where we do the same main tasks every day. Branching out and trying something new is good for the soul!

The bible states that ” my people perish because of lack of knowledge.” I believe that knowledge empowers us to make better decisions in life. If I knew what I know now 10 years ago, but life would be a bit better, and would not have gone through unnecessary stress. Jais, I agree with you that lifelong learning not only promotes career growth but also personal development.

Great post! When you first start a career as a teacher, administrators will always ask you about your philosophy of education. I remember writing about how I wanted my students to become lifelong learners and wanted to continue my own educational journey as well.
