Why you need to create an epic after moving Checklist ?

Why should you create a Checklist?

Moving is a complex process which requires thorough planning, good organizational skills, and yes, checklists. However, moving doesn’t end with moving in. It is just the beginning of a new process called adjustment, and it may take some time before you can call this new place a home. To make this adjustment period as short as possible, you should know that there are many things to be done inside and around your new place. But first things first, create an epic after-move checklist and read on to find some useful tips on what to include.

Buy cleaning supplies and clean up the place

It is possible that you already have some cleaning products at hand given the fact that you’ve cleaned up your old place before moving out. Nevertheless, buy some more as you can never have enough of clean cloths and sponges. Make sure to disinfect bathroom and kitchen, to vacuum, dust and mop the floors. It will be easier to feel comfortable in a neat and tidy home.

Change locks

Make sure to change the locks on exterior doors since it is impossible to know who else has the keys to your home. Home is where we are supposed to feel safe, so make this new place as safe and secure as possible by calling a locksmith or installing new locks yourself. It is a small investment and easy task, while you will have your peace of mind.

Check smoke detectors

One more tip regarding the safety of your home. Take a look at smoke detectors if they are in good shape and replace the batteries, just in case. One can never be too sure, nor rely on previous tenants. Also, replacing batteries will prevent annoying chirping once they become empty.

Add some color

Great way to make your home truly yours is to personalize with your favorite colors. However, keep in mind that you need to match the color of your walls with existing furniture and accessory, so don’t rush and don’t go wild. It is best to stick to neutral colors since they create a calming and welcoming atmosphere as they are easy to match with the rest of decor.

Change your address

Make sure to inform your bank about the new address, and see if there is an option in your post office to forward mail from your previous address. Also, figure out where you pick up your mail and where is your mailbox. Some buildings have a mailbox center, while in others there is a mail slot on your door.

Take measures before buying new furniture

Do not hurry with throwing in all pieces of furniture at once since it will take some time for you to figure out space as well as the look you want to achieve. Make sure to have essentials, but take time to see which layout will make the room most functional. Also, take measures of your place, entrance door, and corridors in your building to make sure that pieces you buy can fit.

Set up utilities

Assuming you have already scheduled installation dates for utility services like electricity, water and gas now is the time to look for an internet provider, phone, trash, and cable services. Also, if you happen to move into your place as a homeowner, consider reaping benefits of digital antenna installation to make the best out of lazy afternoons in front of the TV.

Dress up your windows

To ensure privacy, install some basic window treatments that you can change later on when you focus on decorating the place. For now, simple curtains or drapes will do the trick, and they will create a warm feel in your new home.

Meet your neighbors

A key to being safe is being close to the community. After you settle in, take time to get to know your neighbors and have a small friendly chat with them. Invite them over for snacks and drink and ask about your new neighborhood. Not only you will get new friends, but you will also get some useful information about important things like where to shop, eat, etc.

Conclusion

Checklists make life easier, so make a good and long list of to-dos and enjoy finishing tasks in your new place. There are so many things to do when moving into a new apartment, but remember to take your time and enjoy every step of it. It will be your home sweet home before you know it.
