“Happiness is what fuels your days; aligns you with the stars, beats your heart, heals what hurts, turns the page, makes new friends, finds true love, calls the shots, waves the wand, connects the dots, feeds your mind, frees your soul, rocks the world, and pays compound interest. “- Mike Dooley
How to Become a Happy and Positive Person? This is one of the most common questions that arise in the mind of many people.
How do you know if you’re truly happy?
Happy people are not born with something called “Happiness”. They are happy because of certain habits that feed their happiness hormones. Cultivating these habits can help us experience the joy in little things in life and motivate us to celebrate those little joyful moments with more enthusiasm. Most happy people have these habits in common:
- They feel free – free to think and free to act as per their will, independent of what other people say or think about them.
- They enjoy their own company and silence.
- They appreciate what they already have and feel blessed about that.
- They find beauty in everything and everyone around them.
- They worry less and enjoy more.
- An old saying “Early to bed – early to rise” is still valid for happy people.
- They forgive others, for the sake of their own peace of mind.
So here are a few steps to a simpler way of life that make you more aligned to the behaviors of happy people:
1. Take care of yourself
Engage yourself in “me time activities” for a while by spending time with yourself and for yourself. Go for a walk, listen to your favorite music, do what makes “you” happy – It could be playing with a pet, eating dark chocolate, or maybe simply bird watching. It could be anything; Just do that! It’s your time.
2. Declutter your surroundings
Do it once in fifteen days (at least). Clear up the physical mess around you. Organize your desk, your room, and your bookshelf. Give away what is no more required – someone else might find it useful.
3. Learn to say NO
Say “No” to what you do not want to do. Sometimes this might sound difficult but a simple NO, in the beginning, can save you from the stress of later. If you are constantly being on a spree to please others, you are simply giving them the charge of your own happiness. Prioritize yourself and what holds importance to you. Stop saying YES always just because you don’t want to hurt others. If you really want to be happy and start focusing on what makes you happy.

4. Focus on one life goal at a time
Oftentimes, we have a good long list of goals to achieve and we try to work on all of them at the same time. This increases the level of stress on your mind. Focusing on one goal at a time will help you in achieving better results and peace of mind.
5. Surround yourself with uplifting people
Give your energy to those people who raise your own. There are people who drain out all your energy with their negative talks. Avoid them! If they are so close to you, unavoidable and unchangeable – accept them as they are and stop putting your efforts and energy into them.
6. Don’t compare yourself to others
Comparing yourself with others is a straightforward approach of depriving your happiness. When you compare yourself, you are sure to find something missing in your life. Eventually, lack of happiness will dominate your mind. unhappy while chasing that missing stuff. Comparison often makes you feel unfulfilled. Focus on your own goals and growth, instead of looking at others and comparing yourself with them.
7. Don’t bother what others are talking about you.
You need not worry about what opinions others are forming about you. You know yourself better than they know you. Go with your inner voice. If you are unable to make some decisions, ask ONLY those who care for you and are not judging you for being who you are.
8. Stop going after ‘the extra’
It’s always to good to have dreams, goals and aspirations. After all, They give you a purpose that ignites the spark within you and gives you a reason to wake up every morning. But, when you have your eyes set on getting extra, you will never be able to feel content with what you have right now. Discontentment stems from unhappiness- for sure!
9. Feel grateful for what you have
Above all- make an effort to say thanks to the universe for what you already have. When you practice gratitude regularly, you shift your focus from “lack” to “having more than enough”. This eventually makes you feel blessed and raises your vibrational frequency to a higher level. Isn’t it a shortcut to becoming happy instantly?
Wrapping Up – How to Become Happy
Happiness isn’t readymade! You need to create it for yourself. It’s a choice that you can make. No matter what being happy means to you, it’s always within the reach. A few tweaks to these habits can help you get there.
